Battle of Mouquet Farm

The Mouquet Farm was a key point for the German defence. It stood on the right of the path still existing there. Its cellars were linked to a trench network.

August 5th the Australians launched an attack against this stronghold, just after the loss of 17 000 killed or wounded soldiers during the Pozières battle. Each day opponents confronted each other in a nightmare landscape and under a deluge of fire. But gains were weak.

September 1st, they were relieved. Australian soldiers had lost 6 300 more men.
